Our New Journey

Two years ago, our new journey was being engaged.  This past year has been being a married couple. Now....we get to start another new journey: parenthood!!

Here's the story about how we found out.

I blogged about our anniversary trip to North Carolina.  However, I left out the most important detail.  On Monday, the day before we flew home, we decided it would be fun to find out if we were pregnant while on vacay!  Now, to give you some background.  For MONTHS before we even began trying to get pregnant, I had been googling "ways to tell your husband you are pregnant."  I had all of these cute ideas in the back of my mind and how I would surprise Tyson when he came home from work one night.  Well, none of that happened, and it wasn't anything creative and romantic.  But, it was still perfect.

We were heading to eat downtown for our last night, but decided to stop at Target and get a pregnancy test.  Yes, I peed on it at Target!!  (Like I said, not romantic).  Then, I hid it in a bag and neither of us looked at on our 10 minute drive downtown.  We FINALLY found a parking spot.  My heart was pounding.  It was time for the moment of truth.  In the back of my mind I was thinking "it's negative, don't get your hopes up.  There's NO way we got pregnant this fast."  I reached in for the test and looked at the little digital screen.  Here's what I stared at in shock:

I showed Tyson and we both kind of sat there in silence and shock!  I just couldn't believe it.  I think I kept telling myself that we couldn't be pregnant because I didn't want to be disappointed.  Then when I saw the answer I was not expecting....my reaction was a little delayed!!

About two days after we got home, I took another test just to make sure.  I was still pregnant! Hahaha!

We are so excited for what's to come.  It's been hard keeping a secret, but now that we've shared, I'm starting to feel like this is so much more real!  I've been feeling great and not really "pregnant" at all so it was hard to believe it right away.  We've already had one ultrasound and we just heard the heartbeat again last night.  Everything is looking good!!!

We can't wait to meet Baby Burton on (or around) April 2nd!

Lions and tigers and bears....oh my!!!

Tyson and I spent Labor Day weekend in Omaha with the Malcolm's and my parents.  We all left on Saturday morning, made a pit stop in Des Moines, and continued on our way.  After changing and freshening up, we spent some of Saturday evening at a small pond.  Ava shared her Goldfish crackers with the ducks and swans.  When Tyson arrived (he had to work until 2:00 so showed up a little later) we went for a boat ride around the pond.  Ava was being a little too brave and probably would have jumped in the water if we let her! :)  After the boat ride, we walked to the Old Market and ate at Spaghetti Works.  It was delicious!!  We went to bed early that night because we had a BIG day planned for Sunday.

On Sunday, the Malcolm's picked us up (they were staying at a different hotel) and we headed to the Henry Doorly Zoo!!!  I don't think any of us were dressed appropriately.  It was cold at 9am and we had all planned on a warm day!!  Eventually it did warm up and if we stayed in the sun, the shorts and tank tops that Wendy and I were wearing felt pretty good (in the shade was a different story).  We spent the whole day at the zoo!  We saw everything from an orangutang that spit at my dad, to a gorilla pounding his chest, to a pond FILLED with Koi fish!

After the zoo, we headed to the Old Market for ice cream and then back to the hotel to relax!  Darren wasn't feeling well, but Wendy and Ava came to our hotel so Ava could go swimming with nana and papa and to order pizza.  Ava then spent the night with nana and papa, allowing Wendy and Darren to enjoy their king size bed without a kicking toddler (the pack-n-play they requested never got delivered!!).  After pizza, we played a game of Farkle (which I won) and then it was off to bed.

On Monday, we slept in and headed back to Cedar Falls around 10:00am.  Family weekends are so great...we were sad that Josh wasn't able to make it!
